Honestly, the entire time their team made us feel like our home buying experience mattered to them. There was a point where Veteran's United should have delegated a different point of contact, (we made an offer on a house the same weekend our loan officer had a baby). Even though he was on paternity leave, the loan officer responded with what we needed to do, albeit concisely.
Later, we had an issue with an appraisal delay. I am pregnant and we'd planned on closing exactly a month before our due date. But we found out the closing was delayed (thanks to the appraisal) the same day I found out from the doctor that baby would need to come out 3 weeks early. When I explained the situation, the mortgage team did everything they could through the holidays to get a closing date sooner than the new baby date. And the day we got approved to close, they sent us a signed card, stuffed animal, and book for the new baby.
Our loan team was great from start to finish.
Robert Keeley was also very good. He was very patient with all of the communications and all of the checklist processes. His was diligent in making sure all my information got to the underwriters and helped me understand exactly what they were asking of me. I am thankful for my whole team, to include Laura who stepped in and kept the process moving seamlessly when needed. I never felt like anyone dropped the ball or forgot about me. It truly was a person-centric experience and I look forward with working with the same team when it comes to buying my dream home.
Exceptional work they do. Very helpful and outstanding professionalism.
With Veterans United the closing cost were higher. There were no grants offered.I really feel like I got taken advantaged of and ripped off. There were people that were part of the team that were not needed and I never utilized. So they got part of the closing cost.I also plan on posting on social media about how Veterans United took advantage of me.
I'll make sure to share with active Military, Veterans, Freemasonions, the Fraternal Order of Police, and whoever else will listen.
Response from Veterans United
Hi Eric,
I’m really sorry to read how this experience left you feeling taken advantage of. That’s incredibly upsetting, and I understand why higher closing costs, especially without grant options, would feel discouraging and unfair. I also hear your frustration around feeling like there were people involved who didn’t add value or support for you.
I want to be clear that taking advantage of anyone is never our intention, and I’m sorry that’s how this came across. Closing costs and available assistance can vary based on a number of factors, and we should always do a better job explaining what applies and why, so nothing feels unexpected or unnecessary.
Your feedback matters, and I’d truly like the chance to understand what happened and help address your concerns directly. Our Client Advocate team is here to listen and review this with you. You can reach them at 1-800-212-5200 or ClientAdvocate@vu.com, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST. Messages outside those hours are typically returned the next business day.
Sincerely,
Claire S., Client Relations Manager
Lots of moving parts but everyone communicates well.
Minor miscommunication right on the closing date. But thanks to Ben being super proactive during this whole process the issue was easily fixed and allowed us to close without issues.
We were in dire straights, our home had mold and I am disabled from Iraq. We turned to an internet search and we found Veteran's United. We went from a hotel to air bnb, but the team was there with us throughout the wait. Their kind words kept me sane, and my mind at ease. They never said we can't or anything negative to us. Sometimes I thought they were Superheroes. I will sing their praises, and HIGHLY RECOMMEND them to all my Veteran friends, and once again for me and my wife Katrina, and daughter Peyton thanks for our GREAT home and new lease on life. I can’t express how grateful I am for the whole VU team that helped me conquer a dream and turn it into reality for not just me but for both of my daughter. Thank you
Getting out of bankruptcy was very stressful as I needed to find a house and many lenders were giving me the runaround. When I contacted veterans United, my loan officer helped me so much. We were able to close sooner than 30 days and I did not have to pay anything for closing. The paperwork were very easy and my entire closing process at closing was about no more than 30 minutes.
Team Haley was awesome.
